Day 2 Continued
Caleb and I thought we'd be safe but as soon as the cattle saw our spears, they charged at us too! My stomach dropped. We all ran as hard as we could but the bulls were gaining on us, while we were pulling away from the cows. Suddenly, I had an idea. I stuck my spear into the ground and pointed it at the oncoming bulls. One of the bulls charged on to the spear and crashed through it, it looked unharmed at first but then it stuttered, stopped, lay down and died. Triumph rushed through me but then I realized I was unarmed and there were still bulls charging at us. Suddenly, out of the bush, a spear came hurtling down and with a solid *THOCK* it landed in the ground in front of the leading bull. Startled it stopped and made a call. The other bulls, realizing the danger, stopped charging and started backing away. Another spear whistled out of the bushes and buried itself inside a bull's shoulder. The bulls charge charged away over the horizon. Shadows fall across the sky. I look up. With a yelp of terror, I jump back. A spear lands on the ground, barely missing me. With a look of triumph on his face, Jimi steps out of the bushes. Caleb, Sam and I look at him sternly. "You nearly killed us out there!" said Caleb, outraged. "Well I saved you!" replied Jimi, smirking. Caleb was so annoyed that he turned and walked away. I groaned and headed to the shelter. We collected wood again except this time it was strangely easier, as if we had been doing this for years. Perhaps there was more to this mountain than meets the eye... As I pondered on this, I lit the fire and roasted the lamb on the spit but we had no idea on how to cook the cow. We ate hungrily, as we hadn't eaten for the whole day and we had just been chased by an angry herd of rampaging bulls. We had a silent meal because Caleb was glowering coldly at Jimi. It was so unsettling that Sam went away early. An hour later, as I lay in the shelter, I had the strangest feeling that this was only the beginning...
